A: You will need a GPS/Java enabled phone from Nextel or SouthernLINC. Click here for current models.
Nextel offers a modem that can be installed in the vehicle as a fixed alternative to the phones.

Q: I registered the phone, but do not see anything in Quik-Trac Online when I logged in. It is blank.

A: You must have closed the Quik-Trac program on your phone before it reported in. You will need to go to "Java Apps" on your phone and highlight the Quik-Trac-fo icon and Press, "OK". This will start Quik-Trac and display the main screen. Near the top of the screen, "3m" should be displayed. This means that within 3 minutes, a GPS fix will be retrieved from the GPS satellites and displayed on the phone as a Lat/Lon with the time, date, altitude and speed. (you can see the this by pressing the "down arrow" on you keypad.) Once the GPS fix has been obtained it is sent to the Quik-Trac servers and you will be able to see the position displayed on the map in your Quik-Trac Online account.

Q: The Quik-Trac Screen on my phone says "IDLE". What does this mean?

A: "IDLE" on your screen means that it is not sending any GPS reports to the Quik-Trac Server. You will need to start it again. If you have a Private IP address, you will need to start the Quik-Trac program on your phone and from the main screen, Press the Nextel "Menu" button. This will bring up the Quik-Trac Menu. Scroll down to "GPS Track" and Press, "Select". In the box displayed type in the reporting interval in minutes you want the phone to send GPS reports to you. (ie: "3" for 3 minutes, "5" for 5 minutes, etc.) Then Press, the "Start" button. After starting, you will be returned to the main Quik-Trac screen and the reporting interval you saved will be displayed near the top of the screen. Wait until you get the first GPS fix before you close the program. Do not click on EXIT, this will stop the program. "Press" the Red hang up button twice to leave Quik-Trac running in the background in a "suspended" folder. If you have a Public IP address and it has reported in before, you can send it a "poll" or "track" from your Quik-Trac Online account or from Quik-Trac Desktop. If it hasn't initially reported in, then go through the same steps above for the Private IP address. This will get the initial report to the Quik-Trac server.

Q: Can I add more phones to my Quik-Trac Service?

A: Yes, you can have as many phones as you like. First, order Quik-Trac as you did on your first phone, then download and install it. When you start Quik-Trac, you will be required to register it. Use the same User Name and Password you registered your first phone with, but DO NOT check the "New User" box. If you do, this will create a new account on the Quik-Trac server and the phone will not be added to your existing account. If you have forgotten your User Name and Password, you may call Tech Support at 208-354-0155. You will be asked a few security questions about your account before given the information. After you have registered your new phone, you will see "3m" on the screen. "Press" the Red hang up button twice to leave Quik-Trac running in the background in a "suspended" folder.

Q: What is the ManDown Alert and how does it work?

A: Quik-Trac's ManDown Alert is for emergencies. If someone is in trouble and need help they can key in "1311" from the main screen of Quik-Trac on their phone, then Press the Green "Send" button to send an emergency alert to Quik-Trac Online or Quik-Trac Desktop. The alert comes into the program within seconds flashing red and if speakers are attached, it makes a very loud audible sound. If will continue until someone acknowledges it or sends for an updated GPS position so help can be dispatched. It can be set up in Quik-Trac on the phone to send an immediate Cell Alert (cell site fixes can be sent immediately) or GPS Alert (GPS satellite fixes require seeing at least 3 satellites. Quik-Trac is programmed to look for satellites for 32 seconds then it will send a cell site fix.) The Quik-Trac programs distinguish the different type positions received by using a satellite or cell tower icons in the history displayed.

Q: Why are there different "Flag" Icons on the map?

A: Red Flag = ManDown Alert
Blue Flag = Location (No Movement)
Blue Flag w/arrow = Location (Moving)

Q: In the "History", what are the Icons?

A: Quik-Trac distinguishes the true satellite positions from the cell tower positions by using a satellite icon and a cell tower icon. With the icons you can better determine the type and accuracy of the fix or position. The US Government GPS Satellite Network requires that a fix can only be determined by "seeing" a minimum of 3 satellites. Also, the more satellites the GPS chip in the phone sees, the more accurate the fix or location. Cell Tower fixes can be up to 8 miles off from the actual location of the person with the phone because it looks for the nearest cell tower and sends that location and not the phones location. When a position is displayed in Quik-Trac Online or Quik-Trac Desktop the icon shows the type position. If it is a true GPS satellite position, it also shows the number of satellites it picked up and the degree of accuracy of the fix on the page. If it is a Cell Tower position, no data is displayed. Remember, to get a satellite position, the phone or modem must have access to the sky in order to see the satellites. You can not be in a building or under a bridge. If you are in a vehicle, it is best to have the phone on the dash in order to see more satellites. The more satellites it sees, the more accurate your positions are.
